ROMANILLOS-STYLE GUITARS

My Romanillos-style instruments are based on the current plantilla and bracing of José Romanillos.  They utilize a seven fan bracing style with open harmonic bars to extend the vibrating area of the soundboard and feature the Romanillos 18-hole bridge tieblock.

INSTRUMENTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE 

"La Cariñosa" - completed 2022

Although the label is dated 2019, this instrument had been set aside in order to finish other projects.

This is a performance quality instrument made with premium master grade materials.  The 12th fret action is currently set at 3.5mm and 3.2mm respectively (E6, E1).

 

Specifics:

  • Romanillos plantilla with Romanillos open harmonic bar bracing pattern.

  • 650mm scale - 52mm wide at nut

  • Master grade Italian Alpine spruce soundboard with exquisite bearclaw figure

  • Master grade figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides (sides are lined with Spanish cedar veneer

  • Figured Brazilian rosewood headplate (front and back) and 18-hole Romanillos-style bridge

  • Spanish cedar neck

  • Gabon ebony fretboard

  • Brazilian cherry bindings and backstrip

  • Handmade rosette with coordinated purflings, endgraft and tieblock

  • NOS vintage hand-engraved straight plate Fustero tuners with MOP butttons

  • Entire instrument is hand finished in French polish of shellac

  • Instrument fitted with Hiscox PROII hardshell case

“Jacinta" - completed 2019 

Although the label is dated 2015, the instrument was only recently finished, as it had been set aside (and forgotten) due to other intervening projects.  As such it is essentially new old stock - NOS.  The 12th fret action is currently set at 4.0mm and 3.5mm respectively (E6, E1) with plenty of saddle to adjust lower if desired. 

The sound is full and robust with excellent sustain and beautiful, clear trebles - a worthy performance instrument.

  • Romanillos plantilla with Romanillos adapted Torres bracing (graduated fan braces vs. all at 7mm wide x ~3mm tall)

  • 650mm scale - 52mm wide at nut

  • Master-grade Western red cedar soundboard

  • Premium Cocobolo back and sides, binding, headstock, and bridge

  • Spanish cedar neck 

  • Gabon ebony fingerboard

  • Handmade mosaic rosette, with coordinated purflings, tieblock, and backstrip 

  • Romanillos-style 18 hole tieblock 

  • Sloane stippled bronze tuners with snakewood buttons

  • Entire instrument is hand finished in French polish of shellac

  • Guitar will be shipped in a Hiscox PRO II hardshell case
