“Adelita”

This is a replica of the Torres FE18, built in 1864.  This is a very small bodied guitar, yet it has a “normal” scale length of 640mm.  The soundboard is German spruce, back and sides of flamed big leaf maple, and all decorative inlays and purfling as per the original.  Due to the instrument’s somewhat unique size, an appropriate fitted case was unavailable, hence this guitar will be housed in a custom wooden “coffin case” made from the same flame maple as the back and sides of the guitar, with Pernambuco accent strips around the perimeter of the top and back as well as that of the case interior.   Both the guitar and the case will be completely hand finished in French polish of shellac.

Instruments in Progress

“Unnamed”

This instrument is based on the 1883 Torres SE43, which is currently housed in the Musee de la Musique in Paris, France.  As with my SE72-style instrument “La Emperatiz”, it also utilizes the Romanillos plantilla as the overall dimensions are quite similar.  The soundboard is European spruce, back and sides of flamed European maple, and all decorative inlays and purfling as per the original.  Headstock overlay and bridge are of Brazilian rosewood and bindings of Macassar ebony. The guitar will be completely hand finished in French polish of shellac and fitted in a Hiscox PROII case.

“Unnamed”

This instrument is based on the 1867 Torres FE24. It is built on my standard Torres plantilla.   The soundboard is European spruce, back and sides of birdseye maple, and all decorative inlays and purfling as per the original.  The headstock overlay with the meander inlay and the bindings are of Gabon ebony and the bridge is Brazilian rosewood.  The soundboard is fitted with a spruce ring around the soundhole to enable the fitting of a brass tornovoz. The guitar will be completely hand finished in French polish of shellac and fitted in a Hiscox PROII case.

“Uno y Ocho” - built 2014

This instrument is built on my small-bodied FE 17 Torres plantilla.  It is elaborately decorated with inlays and other design elements I merged from the Torres FE01 from 1854 and the Torres FE08 from 1858, hence the name “Uno y Ocho”.

Price as shown - $5900

“Recuerdos de Tárrega” - built 2011      (click to listen to audio clip)

This is a replica of Tárrega’s first Torres guitar, FE 17, which was one of Torres’ most highly decorated guitars and was his personal instrument that he sold to the young prodigy Tárrega.  This is a one-off instrument, using the FE 17 plantilla (smaller body than my standard Torres instruments).
